Buxted, East Sussex
This detached family home in the heart of the Sussex countryside had draughty, single glazed, metal Crittal style windows and doors housed within timber frames. Many of the wooden frames were rotten and required replacement and the metal windows and doors required complete refurbishment and painting.
With high heating costs and a cold winter behind them, our clients were anxious to replace their old windows with high specification, double glazed windows with security ironmongery whilst maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the property particularly in the bay windows and entrance frames. We advised the use of 24mm argon gas filled double glazing fitted into hardwood frames that would meet with the thermal requirements of current Building Regulations. The joinery was then manufactured with traditional morticed and tenoned glazing bars internally, inset spacer bar within the double glazed unit and applied timber glazing bars to the exterior surface of the glass giving the appearance of single panes. The fine glazing bars in the bays and entrance frames could be maintained with this system whilst upgrading the thermal efficiency of the joinery.
