We were commissioned by Cheesmur Building Contractors to design, manufacture and install a complete library of shelving units to house their client’s comprehensive collection of books in Scaynes Hill, East Sussex. The project included banks of shelving punctuated with window seats around the outside perimeter of the room with a row of island units running adjacent to these to form a second row of shelving on the inner perimeter.

The library was manufactured in oak veneer with solid oak lippings, over veneered and spray lacquer coated for a high quality finish. To accommodate the wide variety of sizes, the shelves were designed to fit on a peg system so that the heights could be adjusted as appropriate. For very precious books, a glass fronted, lockable cabinet was incorporated within the inner perimeter. Finally, a secret door to the rooms above was designed with faux books and shelves.
