Replacement French doors
Older French doors can significantly compromise energy efficiency with their large expanses of glass. If you have French doors that are starting to show their age, it might be time to consider upgrading them. We can replace doors made from timber, uPVC, metal and composite materials, upgrading them to new, sustainably sourced wood.
These are some of the telltale signs you might spot if your French doors are ready to be replaced:
- Draughts and cold spots.
Older French doors can cause your home to be cold and uncomfortable, especially if you only have single glazing or the door is ill fitting. - Damaged glazing.
If glass is damaged, you’ll usually need to replace the whole pane. It may be time to consider a door upgrade at the same time – modern glazing has many benefits, and it won’t always fit into older doors. - Warping, cracking and damage to the timber.
As your French doors age, you may begin to see visible signs of wear and tear. This can affect the doors themselves as well as the frame. - Gaps between the door and the frame.
These can pose a security risk, making it easier to force the doors open. They can also be responsible for those cold spots you’re feeling. - Difficulty opening and closing doors.
Your doors, hinges and door furniture can sustain damage and suffer general wear and tear over the years.
New French doors
French doors can transform a home, making spaces feel bright and roomy, and giving you easy access to the outdoors. If you don’t have French doors already, or you have different types of doors (such as old-fashioned sliding patio doors, or side hinged doors that block out the light), we can help you make the switch.
You will need to have enough space to fit French doors – individual door widths usually start at around 30 inches. There’s no need to be restricted by manufacturer sizes, though, as we’ll make your doors from scratch in our own workshop. We ensure they’re the perfect fit for your property.
A consultative process: selecting your perfect French doors
If you’re not quite sure where to start when choosing new French doors, we can help. We work consultatively with you, listening to your requirements and finding out what you want to get from your new doors. If you have existing doors, we’ll also be happy to take a look and check their condition.
The person who comes to your property will be well-versed in joinery design and will be able to talk you through all your options. We regularly make doors for period properties and listed buildings, and we take an individualised, personal approach to every project. We’ll help you make your home more beautiful.
